would you be mine?
“summoning all my courage,
i finally sit down to write this,
my heart pounding in my chest
because it can no longer hold what it feels for you.
i’ve been thinking about you for so long,
maybe too long,
and today i cannot keep silent any longer.
the first time i saw you,
it felt like déjà vu,
and for a few frozen seconds,
i could barely breathe, barely move,
just lost in the sight of you.
that day, on the college grounds,
your hair flowing in the wind
as if it were trying to catch me,
i knew somehow that you would stay in my mind,
and i have never dared to deny it.
even though our schedules never matched,
even though our classes were at completely different times,
i found myself searching for you in every face i saw,
hoping, wishing,
sometimes just standing quietly in the crowd,
admiring you from afar
because i never had the courage to speak.
i have always been a coward when it comes to love,
hesitant, unsure, fumbling with the words i wanted to say,
but now my heart holds every word i could ever need
to describe this feeling,
a feeling that pulls me toward you more with each passing day.
i know i am not perfect,
a tangled mess in so many ways,
and yet i cannot help but wonder
if you have ever looked at me
the way i find myself looking at you.
i remember the first time we spoke,
a small moment when i asked,
“are you here for the developer club?”
and you said, “yes,” eyes on your phone.
i didn’t even know your name until that day,
yet something changed after that moment,
something blooming inside me
that i cannot fully explain.
you were the first person to truly read my poems,
to understand them,
and at first, it felt strange, almost uncomfortable
to share that part of me,
but then it became natural,
as if you were meant to read them,
as if you were meant to know me in ways no one else could.
the movies we watched together,
the hours spent talking about our pasts,
our laughs and memories flowing for hours
without noticing the time,
it felt like time itself had paused for us,
and it felt as though all these moments
were written somewhere before we even lived them.
i cannot keep these feelings locked away any longer,
hoping you will somehow notice them in my silences;
i want you to hear them from me, plain and true:
i like you, a lot,
more than i have ever liked anyone before,
and you make my days brighter,
my words softer,
and my world feel a little less heavy.
i am still figuring myself out,
i am still imperfect,
but my heart is certain,
and it wants you in my life,
not as a memory,
not as someone i admired from afar,
but as my person,
my companion,
my heart’s choice.
so now i ask you,
simply, from the bottom of all these tangled feelings and quiet hopes,
would you be mine? ❤️”
